Guidance Notes
Guidance issued by the Standards Commission for Scotland
The Standards Commission issues Guidance to assist councillors and members of devolved public bodies to interpret the provisions of the Councillors' and Members' Codes of Conduct.
The Guidance is kept under regular review to ensure it remains fit for purpose. The relevant version can be viewed by selecting the relevant Guidance below. The revised Guidance on the Councillors' Code of Conduct contains illustrations and examples of factors that councillors should consider when interpreting the Code. The Standards Commission hopes this will help councillors relate the provisions of the Code to the scenarios they face and the situations they find themselves in.
The latest version was issued in 2018 to reflect changes made to the Councillors' Code of Conduct and takes effect from 9 July 2018. A braille version of the Guidance on the Councillors' Code of Conduct, which incorporates the Councillors' Code of Conduct, is available on request.
The Standards Commission also produces a Guidance only version of the document, for ease of reference, which can be found below.
